TdF Stage 9 Recap. - Is it the Spider or the Eel?

Did this man slip and slide or scurry his way to victory, today? DeFeet lets you be the judge. Vote now and be in today's contest!

Arriba!! Throw it up to a Colombian to deal the wild card at the Tour. I love to see those guys dish it up. He was probably going "Hey, these mountains are no so high.. and Barloworld is no so bad team." I heard Phil Ligget call him a spider... which is a good name for him. Before that, I was thinking he looked more like an eel. His features, and the way his body moves remind me of an episode of Planet Earth. So.. let's settle this. Grab your cell phones, because it's time to vote. This is the first blog-to-text vote ever done. Make history - vote now.

By voting, you are entered in a drawing to win DeFeet Tour Socks. Standard text message rates apply (same as when you text a friend), and you will not be spammed.

Here's how to play (you must be in the United States to vote). Go to your cell phone's menu, select 'Text'. In the space to enter a phone number, enter 66915. In the message, enter either spider or eel. Nothing else (or the vote won't be counted). Good luck - we will have an official nickname for Soler, soon.

In 1984, I screamed at my Tv for this guy to "GO!". Since then, we've shared lots of great times (and some hard times). Good friend and DeFeet fan, Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Hegg. Hegg is the Director of the Successful Living - ParkPre Cycling Team. Hanging out with Hegg, last night, it's evident that he's a great role model for the young riders that he is bringing up. It's so important to be around a person that has weathered much of what the sport deals out. Hegg is that kind of mentor for his athletes.

In 1987, I raced for the first time some of those same roads that the Tour covered, today. With a pack of wild-eyed 16-18 year olds from all over Europe, many high country first-timers, you can imagine the strangeness that ensued. We left a lot more than just rubber on those roads. Times like that are when someone like Hegg is indespensable to a young team.
